A Life of Adventure: My Journey Across the Globe

My name is Thomas “Tom” Cherry. I was born in 1969 in Reading, UK. I am the son of a US Diplomat father and a Turkish Cypriot homemaker mother. I have grown up in Okinawa, Japan, Panama, Bahrain, and Jordan. I joined the military as an E-0 airman recruit in the US Navy at age 19. I was stationed in NAS Pensacola, Fl, and NAS Jacksonville, Fl. I was stationed on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower and the USS Goerge Washington assigned to Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron – 5. I served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm; I am a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. I completed my five years of service and received an honorable discharge in 2005.

I joined the US Department of State in October 2005. I traveled the world again with a Diplomatic passport to many countries. Enjoying the cultures I had to work with, the food, the traditions, and other things about other countries which you cannot find just watching TV.

The purpose of this blog is to show the global community what traveling and seeing the amazing planet can offer. There are people and places outside of your door that you can see and experience through traveling to other places and experiencing everything they have to offer. I have been around the world one hundred times. I will go to any country once no matter what others have previously said. Some people have bad experiences. I have had some bad experiences. Unfortunately, sometimes we cannot return to a place to try it again. Through my blog, you will be able to ask for advice on a trip or location and I will provide my honest opinion. My vision is to provide guidance and through my experience provide advice to questions you may have before you travel, while you travel, and when you return from travel.
