Embrace the Magic of Cyprus

I have talked about visiting Cyprus and I think I have covered every aspect of traveling from the US to Cyprus and how to do it with a budget and a list of how to get there, when to get there, and why you want to go there over other destinations such as the Caribbean.  But let us recap some important points.

Budget, you can get to the Caribbean for a fairly low price. But what will surprise you is that when you get there, the price of the hotel, food, and fun, meaning scuba diving, or water sports will be on the more expensive side. I do not like the fact that the Caribbean makes you eat at their restaurants, spend money on their tourist traps, etc. Going farther in my mind is maximizing your budget and getting more bang for your buck while not sacrificing quality.

The quality of the food is fresh, and I think much healthier than many other options (Mediterranean diet). The culture of island time still exists in Cyprus, as it does in the Caribbean, patience. Nothing on any island goes fast. You are on vacation anyway. So, relax and enjoy. Your hotel is much cheaper than the Caribbean so you might be able to bump up your one-week stay into two weeks because of the cost. Another tip is to travel during the week. If you look and have flexible dates, you can usually see cheaper fly days (Tuesday and Wednesday). So do your research or let me do it for you. I have been to the Caribbean often to St Croix as well as some other islands.

I can tell you that being an American in North Cyprus you will be one of the only ones as it is a long trip, and the locals are used to Europeans and mainland Turks being the usual tourist populations. The scuba dives that you book will definitely be cheaper and maybe you can get a couple of day dives to Zenobia. Get the shirt!

I like the fact that you can stroll to the harbor and just have a beer or glass of wine, and people watch. Relax, or bring some friends and family with you. Plenty of restaurants and tons of bars to choose from.  I tend to stay away from the touristy places and explore more traditional restaurants. I want a taste of culture. If I want to taste microwave food, I can stay home and do that. Have a salad, or some grilled meat or seafoods, or both. Surf and Turf!

If you like to gamble, there are tons of casinos to play. Just do not forget to bring your passport as you cannot get into a casino without it. There are some good air B&B’s in Cyprus so look for one if you do not like hotels or looking for a cheaper solution. Look for one near the city center as you will not have to walk that far. Also check to see if the air B&B has hot water heaters as most still have the water tank on the roof and depend on the sun to heat the water.

Beaches are a cheap solution and if you just want some sun, sand, and quiet. Cyprus is the place for you. Bring your own picnic and just buy cold beer at a nearby restaurant. It is a cheap way to spend the day. Just get some sunscreen!

In closing, I think I have covered every aspect of going on vacation to North Cyprus. If not, contact me with any questions or concerns. I will provide guidance and advice. I am not paid by any company, so this is honest advice. No advice being promoted because I am being funded by some companies looking for advertising. If I am guidance on a certain company or airline, it is because at the time of the blog, I found it beneficial and I want to pay it forward. These are economy flights, and hotels, so keep that in mind. I have been to five-star hotels during my career and taken business or first-class flights. I can provide advice and guidance if you want to go in luxury as well if you want my advice. I have been around the world many times to many places. So, when in doubt, reach out! Hope to hear from you soon! Explore the world!
